Our magical Florence offers more than just open-air monuments—among avenues, churches, and enchanting bridges. In the coming weeks, visitors will also be treated to important exhibitions in exhibition spaces of great international significance. Would you like to know about one of them? Today, we will dedicate this article to it: Once upon a time. The Medici and the art of wax modelling.
But first...
Let's take a step back. In particular, let's write something about the exhibition's exceptional location, the Uffizi Gallery. The pride of the city, it is one of the most important museums in Italy, with a constant record of visitors and some of the most priceless artistic masterpieces renowned internationally.
A visit to the Gallery is an unmissable experience for any visitor. Taking a day to 'lose yourself' in the majestic rooms of the Museum, listening to the stories behind the paintings and statues thanks to the professionalism of an expert guide, will be a 'journey within a journey', an adventure through historical eras and illustrious figures.
Wax in Medici Florence
Between the 15th and late 17th centuries, in Medici Florence, wax experienced a period of great splendor. Today, this is evidenced by the exhibition Once Upon a Time in Wax. The Medici and the Arts of Ceroplastics, curated by Valentina Conticelli and Andrea Daninos. It is a truly curious and fascinating exhibition, concerning one of the most discreet artistic techniques. Extremely delicate, due to the perishable nature of the material, wax is synonymous with softness and, when finely worked by skilled hands, can take on wonderful reliefs and features.
More than 90 works—once exhibited in the Tribuna degli Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti—will be on display in this highly detailed exhibition, including paintings, sculptures, cameos, and semi-precious stones.
Enjoying Florence in January
Now that there is no longer such a clear difference between high and low season as there was in the past, now that we are fortunate enough to be able to travel at any time of the year and choose when to take time out and recharge our batteries with a break in a city of art, January becomes one of the most interesting months to visit Florence.
Not only exhibitions, fairs, and occasional events, but also the romantic mood of the Florentine winter, with its crisp temperatures, fresh and clear air, and the banks of the Arno, less crowded than in summer, with their usual elegance that pervades them and makes them the perfect destination for a relaxing stroll, immersed in the wonder of a city whose charm is its distinctive feature.
