With the arrival of March, which brings a breath of 'warm air and good cheer among the picturesque alleys and squares of our city, the winter season also ends for this year.
Easter 2024, that is, the last weekend of this month, will "fall low," as we say in our parts, and while it may still be early to wear short sleeves or have an ice cream lunch, it will not be so early to take advantage of enjoying a relaxing and enjoyable weekend of visiting and discovering Florence's artistic and cultural heritage.
Are you ready then to learn what we have in store for you during the month of March?
March: the month of the year dedicated to women
Internationally recognized, not least because of the anniversary of the 8th, as Women's Month-both for combating violence and gender stereotypes and as an intent to celebrate the feminine universe-March is symbolically a proclamation of rebirth, of openness.
It is indeed a heady month full of surprises, unpredictable and full of opportunities.
And so...an unusual suggestion we feel like sharing with you might be to organize a little tour inside Florence...in the feminine.
Artemisia Gentileschi, Violante Beatrice Siriès, Plautilla Nelli...of all these women there are important works-among Florentine churches and galleries-impossible to miss.
And also, devoting oneself to learning about the history of some of the most important female figures of the Medici (from Catherine to Anna Maria Luisa) or to retracing the steps of some of the female "columns" of the 20th century (from astrophysicist Margherita Hack, whose biography is recently paid homage on the first national TV channel with a fiction dedicated to her and interpreted by actress Cristiana Capotondi, to the very famous journalist Oriana Fallaci) could be a wonderful idea to deepen the knowledge of the local area and pay homage to female talents of Italian history and art.
Easter and Easter Monday in the city: a handful of ideas for you
And if you will be in our neck of the woods over Easter weekend, we suggest, as we do every year, that you do not miss the bursting of the cart, a scenic Florentine event (which historically dates back to the time of the First Crusade in 1100) that takes place on Easter morning in Piazza Duomo.
Tradition but also a lot-lots of art-with visits to some of Florence's most internationally famous museums (Galleria degli Uffici, Galleria dell'Accademia, Museo del Novecento just to name a few) while also discovering the promotions and free admissions scheduled for Easter and Easter Monday.
In addition, for lovers of classical music and beautiful evenings at the theater, we recommend the not-to-be-missed Easter Concert at Teatro Verdi, Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 9 p.m. Otto Tausk, conductor, Francesca Dego, violin, Mario Brunello, cello, and Orchestra della Toscana.
