In the middle of the journey... of our life I found myself strolling through a charming, radiant city called Florence, where good company is even sweeter to enjoy! Yes, we have left the dark wood behind. Even Dante himself would agree with us, at the sight of the streets of Florence animated by events and coloured by the flower-filled Lungarno riverside, with its magical gardens that reopened to the public this spring. The less well-known gardens are equally fragrant and enchanting, a delight not to be missed! For example, the Rose Garden near Piazza Michelangelo and the Pratolino Garden in the Pratolino district. Animated by the colours and voices of tourists, the summer sun highlights, enlivens and honours the precious artistic, architectural and natural treasures. Gold, green and blue like the sky over Florence in July, this too is an excellent time of the year to visit the city. It is light until late, so visitors can enjoy the summer events of the “Estate Fiorentina” and the nearby “Estate Fiesolana”. For those of you staying at Palazzo Castri, as well as our private garden La Limonaia, a gem among gems, you will also have the chance to relax in our hydromassage pool in the garden and to use the fitness centre, right in the centre of Florence.
If you are not just a tourist, but also love sport, consider spending a few days in Florence. You won’t need to miss your fitness training, because with us you will have a fully equipped fitness and wellness centre, and because you will be able to discover the emotion of going for a run or a walk at dawn in the summer season along the river Arno, through the most beautiful squares embodying the best of the Italian Renaissance. Your run will have a historic and artistic flavour to it.
Dawn in Great Shape
So don’t forget to pack your running shoes and kit so you can get to know Florence on a run or a walk. Florence is not just about art, antiquities and museums. It is also about landscape and nature, hills, gardens and easily accessible cycling and walking trails.
If you want to combine two passions – for art and sport – then call us. We will be happy to give you our best recommendations. The Lungarno riverside is a beautiful, short walk from our hotel. And if you are fitness fanatics you will have no difficulty continuing with your healthy habit of staying in shape. In summer the sun rises between half past five and six a.m., and you can fit in a walk and a bit of stretching followed by a shower and a dip in the pool before breakfasting with the sleepyheads of the family in our garden, La Limonaia.
Relaxing in the Afternoon surrounded by Colour
If you love full sunlight and colour you will be spoilt for choice! Do you remember the paintings in the Uffizi? The colours? The atmospheres? The gold, blue and red of Raphael’s paintings? And what about the red of Brunello di Montalcino wine? Divine! And the colour of the leather of the hand-crafted goods on sale along the road that skirts the Loggia of the Mercato Nuovo? Who could fail to be charmed by the gold, precious stones and jewellery on display in the jewellers’ workshops on the Ponte Vecchio? And a glance skywards highlights the combination of blue sky with manmade excellence, with Vasari’s architectural design of 1565 visible over the shops. It was the Medici family who insisted on the butchers’ shops on the Ponte Vecchio being replaced with prestigious goldsmiths’ workshops. All Florence’s bustling trade would have passed this way, because in 1200 it was the only bridge linking the two parts of the city.
Romantic, Delicious Sunsets
In summer you can enjoy the sunset while drinking a delicious aperitivo on the Lungarno riverside, in one of the magical cocktail bars with breath-taking terrace views or on the panoramic terrace in Piazzale Michelangelo. You can make the most of the summer season, with its long days, to enjoy relaxing moments in our spa, a delicious dinner or a fantastic aperitivo in our Hotel before going to enjoy a night out in Florence. On your return you will find the perfect room for a restful night, after a day spent as a guerrilla tourist. Because a good night’s sleep is another form of nightlife.
There are lots of options, with long stay packages and half-board options for those who want to enjoy the best of everything: comfort, gastronomic delights and well-being for a Florentine summer to be enjoyed 24/7.
