Experience the race... and the city: get ready for the 41st Florence Marathon

Sunday, November 30, 2025, will be filled with sport, beauty, and adrenaline: in the heart of one of the most fascinating cities in the world, the city of the lily will host the 41st edition of the Florence Marathon, one of the most significant running events in Italy and beyond.

Whether you are a professional, an amateur, or simply a spectator, in this article we will tell you why you should not miss this sporting event and enjoy the magic of Florence.

Why participate or attend

The Florence Marathon is now recognized as the main road running event in Tuscany and, together with Rome, Milan, and Venice, is one of Italy's leading marathons. The 42 km and 195 m route passes through unique sights: from the historic center with the cathedral, Piazza della Signoria, the famous Ponte Vecchio, and picturesque riverbanks. The route is flat, with no significant elevation changes, making it ideal for those aiming for a good time or who want to enjoy running in a city of art. Participating means combining sport and tourism: running or spectating in an extraordinary visual and cultural setting.

10 km alternative: If the full marathon seems too much, there is also a competitive 10 km race on the same day (November 30) in the historic center, starting at 8:30 a.m. from Via Tornabuoni.

Useful tips for athletes and spectators:

  • Bag storage and starting area: For the 10 km race, bag storage is available in Piazza Santa Maria Novella from 7:00 a.m.

  • Space and traffic: On marathon day, several streets in the center and avenues will be closed or subject to detours. Please also be aware of this when traveling by taxi or public transportation.

  • Weather conditions and clothing: Late November in Florence can be cool—we recommend technical layers, a scarf, hat, and comfortable shoes.

  • Guests who are not running: If you prefer to watch, choose a strategic spot along the route (e.g., Ponte Vecchio, Piazza Duomo) to cheer on the athletes and enjoy the city brought to life by the event.
